Lucid Structural Repair: Aluminum & ADAS Protocols
Lucid's all-aluminum body-in-white and dense sensor suite demand OEM-specific welding, riveting, and calibration procedures. Here's exactly what a proper structural repair looks like.
Why Lucid Structural Repair Is Different
Lucid Air and Gravity use a bonded and riveted aluminum architecture with high-voltage components running through the floor. A shop without the right training, tools, and isolated aluminum bay can compromise both crashworthiness and warranty coverage.

Structural Repair
Lucid Aluminum Welding & Bonding Protocols
The OEM-required sequence for repairing a Lucid Air or Gravity structural collision.
Isolated Aluminum Repair Environment
- Dedicated aluminum bay separated from steel work to prevent galvanic contamination.
- Segregated tools, sanders, and extraction hoods rated for aluminum dust.
- Explosion-proof vacuum systems — aluminum fines are combustible.
Insider tip: OEM Lucid procedures explicitly require physical separation of aluminum and steel repair areas.
Structural Diagnosis & Measurement
- 3D computerized measuring system verifies frame geometry to Lucid factory tolerances.
- Ultrasonic and visual inspection of bonded joints, castings, and extrusions.
- Any cracked cast node (front or rear shock tower) requires full section replacement — no straightening.
Insider tip: Lucid aluminum castings cannot be heat-straightened. They must be replaced at OEM-defined section joints.
OEM Aluminum Welding (GMAW / TIG)
- Pulse GMAW and TIG welding with Lucid-approved 4xxx / 5xxx filler alloys.
- Pre-weld cleaning with stainless brushes reserved exclusively for aluminum.
- Argon shielding gas, controlled heat input, and destructive weld coupon testing per repair.
- Heat-affected zone limits strictly enforced to preserve alloy temper.
Insider tip: Every technician performing structural welds must hold current I-CAR aluminum welding certification.
Self-Piercing Rivets & Structural Adhesive
- Self-piercing rivets (SPR) installed with OEM-spec Henrob/Tucker tooling and correct die/punch combos.
- Flow-form rivets used at multi-material joints where SPR is not approved.
- Two-part epoxy structural adhesive applied at every bonded seam per Lucid position statement.
- Rivet count, spacing, and adhesive coverage documented photographically for insurer and warranty records.
Insider tip: Skipping a single rivet or adhesive bead changes the load path and voids Lucid's structural warranty.
High-Voltage Battery & Floor Safety
- HV isolation and lockout before any work on the floor pan, rocker, or rear structure.
- Battery pack visual and thermal inspection; module-level scan for isolation faults.
- Damaged battery enclosure requires pack removal and OEM inspection before any welding above it.
Insider tip: Lucid's 900V architecture is unforgiving — no structural work happens near the pack until it is isolated and verified.
DreamDrive ADAS
Lucid Sensor Calibration Requirements
Every DreamDrive sensor disturbed during structural repair must be recalibrated to OEM spec.
Forward-Facing Cameras
RequiredWindshield-mounted stereo cameras require static target calibration on a level floor after any bumper, windshield, or fascia disturbance.
DreamDrive Radar & Lidar
RequiredLong-range radar and lidar (Gravity, select Air trims) need aim verification and OEM-specific calibration targets.
Surround-View Cameras
RequiredAll four cameras must be recalibrated whenever a mirror, tailgate, grille, or bumper is refinished or replaced.
Ultrasonic Sensors
RequiredBumper ultrasonics are pair-matched; replacements require re-coding and self-test cycles.
Steering Angle & IMU
RequiredAfter alignment or steering-column disturbance, steering angle sensor and IMU must be zeroed via Lucid diagnostic tool.
Post-Calibration Road Test
RequiredOEM procedure mandates a dynamic road test to validate lane centering, ACC, and collision warning function.
